The Age of Enlightenment

The following statement I copied straight from the Voice for Animals website:

"Animals are not commodities to be bought and sold. Stores who participate in this, and breeders who supply them will one day, in an enlightened future, be seen for who they are... slave traders."

A couple of points I would like to make about this statement besides the obvious that someone went off their meds. First, anyone who buys and sells pets are slave traders?? This would have to mean that our family pets would have that same rights as ourselves. I lock my dog up every night for his own protection, am I kidnapping him!! Secondly, sometime in the future we are going to be "enlightened" OH WOW-good thing to know. The only other time I saw this word used was in the TV show-Stargate SG1. They had some dudes in the show that were telling people to get ready for the age of enlightenment. I think Voice for Animals is ready for it now.

Horses Seized in Alberta

One hundred starving horses have been rescued by the Alberta SPCA from an Alberta ranch on March 9/2008. http://ca.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idCAN1223003120080312

Voice for Animals in Edmonton is not happy with the SPCA at all now. Why is the Alberta SPCA getting all the media attention and not Voice for Animals?? Media attention=donations. Animal groups compete with each other for news headlines. The winners are the ones who get to the newspapers first. At one point Voice for Animals was so mad that they called Alberta SPCA "pathetic"

The starving horses is not the big concern here for Voice for Animals, the loss of donation dollars is. If they don't get their name in the paper, they don't get to make their donation pitch. Voice for Animals is very good at what they do, and it's not helping out the starving horses.

BILL C-373

BILL C-373 is an anti-cruelty bill that recently did not pass. I read through the bill and it has several good points that would be nice if it was made law. No dog or cock fighting for example. But when I read this bill, I can also see the end of hunting, fishing, circuses. This bill may not end them now, but I can sure see it in the future.

I guess it goes without saying the Voice for Animals is not happy about this. Their response is about what I expected- "Politicians have ignored the call for stronger anti-cruelty laws, and have voted in Bill S-213, like the cowards they are. They have failed Canadians, and they have failed the innocent animals who suffer at the hands of cruel individuals."

Our politicians have done what they are supposed to do, they did not fail us. They got rid of a bill that is in the best interests of animal rights extremists, not the ordinairy Joe on the street. Had the bill been a little more *reasonable*, had it not threatened our hunting and fishing, there would have been a bigger chance of passing. But then again, if it was reasonable, the extremists would never agree to it. The link below is the bill

As always I warn everyone...make sure you understand where your donations are going. Look carefully into the animal rights organizations that you might want to support. You just may be in for a surprise.
